Understanding Government Services in Punjab
A few things worth knowing before you apply for any certificate, ID, or scheme — whether through us or on your own.
What is a Common Service Centre (CSC)?
A government-authorised access point where citizens get digital government services without dealing directly with a departmental office. Punjab Saathi operates as a CSC — we're trained and authorised to submit your application through the correct official portal (e-Sewa Punjab, eServices Punjab, UIDAI, NSDL, and others depending on the service), so you get the same government-issued document without the travel or repeat visits.
Which documents do most services need?
Almost every service here needs some combination of the same core documents: an Aadhaar card, a Voter ID or other address proof, and a recent passport-size photo. Some certificates also need an existing related document — a caste certificate usually needs a parent's existing certificate, for instance.
Why do applications get rejected?
Usually a handful of avoidable mistakes: a blurry or wrongly-sized photo, a name that doesn't match exactly across documents, a missing supporting document, or the wrong form/category selected. We check every application against the department's actual requirements before submitting, which is why ours rarely bounce back.
Government fee vs. service fee — what's the difference?
The government fee is the official charge set by the department for issuing the document itself — it goes to them, not us, and is usually small. Our service fee is separate and covers filling the form correctly, verifying documents, following up with the department, and delivering the result to you.
How do caste certificates affect other applications?
A caste certificate is often the single most reused document in a person's paperwork — asked for again in job applications, admissions, scholarships, and fee concessions. Worth getting it early, and renewing an OBC Non-Creamy Layer or EWS certificate on time, since those expire.
How do I track my application?
Every application through Punjab Saathi gets a reference number the moment it's submitted. Check its current status anytime on our Track Application page — no need to call or visit to ask "has it come yet?"
Government Services in Punjab, Simplified
Most government paperwork in Punjab now runs through one of a few digital systems — e-Sewa Punjab, eServices Punjab (e-District), and the network of Sewa Kendras that handle everything from certificates to scheme registrations. The portals work, but knowing which one applies to your situation, which office actually signs off on your document, and what proof you need going in is where most people get stuck — not the paperwork itself.
Identity Documents
Your Aadhaar, PAN card, Voter ID, and passport form the backbone of almost every other application you'll ever file — banks, government schemes, and other certificates routinely ask for at least two of these together. Keeping them updated and consistent (same spelling of your name, current address) saves real time down the line.
Certificates & Revenue Documents
Certificates like caste, character, and marriage are issued by Revenue Department officers — the Tehsildar, SDM, or local Registrar — after some form of local verification. That verification step is usually what determines how fast (or slow) your certificate comes through, more than the application itself.
Registrations & Welfare Schemes
Birth and death registration, the E-Shram card for unorganised workers, and the Ayushman Bharat / PMJAY health card each unlock benefits you can't easily get any other way — school admissions, accident cover, and cashless hospital treatment respectively. They're free or low-cost by design, so the only real cost is the time it takes to gather the right proof and file correctly.
Serving All 22 Districts of Punjab
Whether you're in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda, or a smaller town in between, the process and the government portal are the same — what differs is which local Tehsildar, SDM, or Sewa Kendra your application routes through. We handle that part so you don't have to figure out the right office yourself.
