Aadhaar Update / Correction

The Aadhaar Update service lets you correct or update any inaccurate information on your Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI — without standing in long queues at an enrolment centre. We submit your request on the official myAadhaar portal and track it until your updated Aadhaar is generated.

What can be updated?

• Name correction (including spelling mistakes)
• Date of birth correction
• Address update (moved to a new address)
• Gender correction

What Can't Be Done Online — Know This Before You Start

Two updates are commonly assumed to be online but aren't: mobile number update and biometric update (fingerprints, iris, photo) both require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre — there is no online option for either, regardless of what some other guides suggest. If that's what you need, we can guide you to your nearest centre and help you prepare.

Free Update Window

UIDAI has been periodically extending a window during which online document (address/ID proof) updates are free — doing the same update in person at a centre still carries a fee. This free window has been extended more than once, so rather than quote a fixed date that may already be outdated, we'll confirm the current deadline for you when you apply. Children also need a mandatory biometric update at age 5 and again at age 15 — both free of cost regardless of channel.

1. Log In to myAadhaar — Sign in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile.
2. Choose What to Update — Select the specific field — name, address, date of birth, etc. — and upload the relevant proof document.
3. Submit and Get Your URN — You'll receive an Update Request Number (URN) once submitted, used to track progress.
4. Track Until Approved — Check your status using the URN — most document updates are approved within a few days.
5. Download Your Updated Aadhaar — Get your updated e-Aadhaar as a PDF instantly, or order a fresh PVC card by post.
